In this guide, I’m going to show you different ways on how to keep a mattress from sliding on a metal frame.
There’s nothing more annoying than a mattress sliding on its box spring or bed frame.
When sleeping, we often move around, but the bed shouldn’t move around with you.
Whether you’re having a sleepless night, a pillow fight, or making love with your partner, the last thing you need to worry about is the mattress sliding and you ending on the floor.
Luckily, there are different hacks/products you can use to keep the mattress from sliding on a bed frame.
Why Do Mattresses Keep Drifting Off Metal Frame?
There are different reasons why mattresses keep drifting off the metal frame. Below are the five main reasons.
Some beds come without side and top rails to secure the mattress.
While bulky mattresses don’t need to be secured using rails to stay in place, they may shift at times, say when you are making the bed.
The constant adjusting whenever the mattress shifts can be quite annoying.
If the bed material is as smooth as the mattress cover, then it is highly likely that the mattress will keep on drifting.
This problem mostly occurs when the metal frame bed comes with box springs or any other smooth surface.
In such a case, getting a bed with a grippy coat would be the easiest way to solve this problem.
This mostly happens due to the oils and particles in the mattress. As the mattress ages, a sliding layer made up of skin oils and particles form at the bottom of the mattress.
Flipping the dirty side up would take care of these problems but who wants to sleep on the dirty side of the mattress.
Improper support is a significant factor to consider if you are always asking yourself why do mattresses keep drifting off the metal frame.
If the bedframe is too big, the mattress will inevitably keep on drifting; however, heavy it is.
The same applies if the mattress is bigger than the bedframe.
Putting a buffer between the spaces may work in the case of a bigger bed frame, but you have to install it to keep the mattress in place frequently.
The buffering will also not work if the space between the mattress and bed frame is too big.
While this is a minor factor, it can, at times, cause the mattress to drift.
Any mattress needs the right support to stay in place, and if the bed moves, the mattress will shift as well. Some beds skate when the floor is slippery even when wheels are locked.
